Cedar St Block Party Photo Booth

Cedar St Block Party Photo Booth

I set up a photo booth at a block party in Fishtown.  Ive always wanted to photograph more “natural” looking people instead of ego driven models and CEOs. I took this opportunity and embraced it wholeheartedly.  I was able to capture a mixture of longtime neighborhood folk and the newcomers. Fishtown is a strange place to live because there is a definite history here.  Im always curious how the new gentrifiers interact with the old schoolers. In this case It was a wonderful collaboration.

This is the same series I featured in my Gravy Gallery and Studio show. You can check Gravy out here.

Kinetic Sculpture Derby At The Trenton Ave Arts Fest

Kinetic Sculpture Derby

I photographed the Trenton Ave Arts fest along with the kinetic sculpture derby in Kensington. I’ve attended the derby before the last couple years its happened and had a great time so when the NKCDC asked me to shoot the event I was happy to oblige.  The derby featured a bunch of local artists who more or less altered their bicycles and created moving sculptures. They raced through the neighborhood and ended up finishing in a giant mud pit.

Aside from the derby lots of local vendors and artists set up vending tables along trenton ave. Everyone from Yards brewery to the local pizza shop. There were many other smaller businesses in attendance. Items sold vary from handmade rugs to artisanal photographic prints.  There were also a plethora of live music performances from local to regional bands and musicians. IF your on the fence about checking it out I would give it a shot next time it comes around. Its an event not to be missed.

Habitat for Humanity Build

Habitat For Humanity

I recently shot a build for the Philadelphia branch of the non profit organization habitat for humanity. They provide housing and assistance to those in need.  If your not familiar with them check out their about page here.

It was a fascinating experience to see the basic bones of a house raised in the matter of a day.  The teamwork and the general mood of the day was so positive.

I addition to building and providing housing for the less fortunate. Habitat for humanity offers lots of home appliances and goods at a steep discount.  That program is called restore. I’ve actually been on the receiving end of some of their generosity and it helped immensely when I needed a washer/dryer and refrigerator for my new house.

Jon Foy in The Philadelphia Weekly

Philadelphia Weekly

Philadelphia Weekly Jon Foy by Sean Bolton
This is a potytsoy of Jon Foy. John is a director. This shot made the cover of the Philadelphia Weekly. Jon and friends Justyn Duerr and Steve Weinik were recently excepted into the Sundance Film Festival for their documentary Resurrect Dead. A documentary where they researched the origin of the Toynbee Tiles .  Even if youve never heard of the Toynbee tiles before you may have come across them.  Check out this wikipedia article about them for the background. But also check out my friend Steve’s photo gallery of the shots here.

If you dont have time to check out those links. The film covers a mysterious street artist who’s cryptic street tile art has reached people across the globe.
