Outdoor Camping & Wilderness Photography: My Latest “Fishing” Trip

My latest adventure was an outdoor camping & wilderness photography “fishing” trip. But Instead of fishing gear I brough my camera, and I wasnt hunting fish. I was hunting photos. This shot above is a macro shot. These can be very challenging because the range of focus is so slim and stability can be a real challenge in the wild.
The Camping Setup

I’m fortunate enough to have some friends who really like to fish. I could care less about fishing but they have some of the best “off the grid” fishing spots for camping trips and I just love camping. Being off the grid is fun as well. The camping was canoe based. We canoed over to an island and once we were there we were pretty isolated.
Friends and Fishing
I dont fish but I do love a good mission with my friends. The whole trip was very mission based. When they were done fishing we spent time wondering the island to see what we could find. The island has tons of relics from floods and things that have washed up ashore. In fact most of where we hiked is traditionally under water due to low rainfall. There have been other times when my friends have tried to camp on the island only to turn away due to the river being too high and fast to cross on a canoe.

Reflections on outdoor photography
All in all I really did enjoy shooting outdoors. I feel like I got some pretty decent shots. I did some macro photography as well as some long exposure shots that came out pretty good. I did however realize that if Im going to try and shoot any birds Im going to need a longer lens or a better sneaking technique.
